Another successful race.
I think so long as we don't get complacent, we can maintain a seriously good presentation. Pity the entry didn't exceed 150. Perhaps we need to sharpen up our pre-race marketing. And what about post race marketing - like shouting to the running magazines about our sub 15 course? Any takers?
About a third of our Club members actively contributed to the race in one way or another. As a direct result we have seriously boosted our coffers. I think the Christmas Doo should be quite a handy event to liquidize some of the Club's newly gained capital....
We should not forget the non Club members who turn out to assist at strategic locations on the course.
Comments anyone?

Yeah... to be honest, I reckon this is one of the top 5k's in the North West... it has to be... it's flat, countryside... and attracts a varied selection of runner abilities which is what makes races.

You need the class athletes like the winner and our own Crowie... then you have the usual suspects like ourselves... makes for a good race.

Personally if it was me... I think we just need to get the entry forms out a bit more to races... I would've but to be honest I've only raced once since May in Chester... otherwise I would've. This has to be the biggest improvement for next year!

Also one thing... what about the day? I often find that mid week runs are a no no... as it effects training and people often race at the weekend... I didn't race Capo because I'd done that 30k off roader... 3 days earlier... and I was tired... if it'd have been of a weekend I think we'd attract alot more runners...

Chris,

I think we have managed to attract more elite runners and this is a good thing. Hopefully, they will come back next year.
I think that next year, we might need to do more work to attract "normal runners". I will try to draw graphs showing how many people did sub 15, sub16, sub17 ... and bring them at the next committee meeting.

Hi All,

Yes once again I think we have produced another excellently organised 5K, however we shouldn't take our eye off the ball and should be looking at what areas we can improve for next year. Here goes My Two Cents:
1) Need to have a presence earlier on race night - I would like to see us more visable earlier on the night. There was only 4 us down until gone six o'clock and no signs up or visability jackets to hand. I think we should have course Markers and Banners out a bit earlier 5.30ish. The first runner arrived at 5.38pm and at 6pm quite alot of runners started to arrive with just myself and Stevie B directing traffic but without any visability jackets.

2) The Start - Didn't realise how much of the problem the start area is but we need to address it before next year. 10 minutes before the race most runners were assembling to the start with the majority walking/running on the road. Traffic was almost at a standstill as cars found it hard to pass and Tim Durrent was our saviour as he loudly shouted for runners to move off the road. Suggestions: Move the start? Have a few Marshalls specifically designated to controlling the start area? Hold the runners at the finish area until the last possible moment?

3) Marketing - Agree with Mark on this one. Main thing is to get forms to races early, say from January onwards next year. Keep using John Schofield site for entry link and results. I will advise Athletics Weekly month or so before so they can put in their fixures section + place in Runners World etc.

4) Think relationship with Urenco this year was much improved and they really got involved this year and gave out some nice T-Shirts at the end - Will be interesting for some feedback from them to see how they felt we exposed them this year.

5) Course Maps - I dumped my Mum in the foyer of the Capo club next to the on the night entry forms before the race. She said that many runners were asking where the Map of the Course was. Can we draw a large Map of the course for next year and place it somewhere near the registration area for the runners to see.

6) Yes - think we need to do some sort of thank you to all the non club members who helped out again this year. Perhaps we can send an official thank you letter to West Cheshire who were good enough to open up their aladins cave of race equipment and let us borrow what we wanted.

This is all thats fresh in my head now so best to post it.

Already looking forward to spending some of that hard earned cash at the Christmas Doo this year!!!

A sobering thought: what if, at this very moment, I am living up to my full potential?

can i suggest that we have someone taking photo's this year, it is something more and more races are doing and i know i always have a look, before i enter and after the race. I think it is one of those little extras that really make the difference, It costs nothing, great publicity, and a good souvenir as well.

It may also be an idea to have a link to a map of the course, i think Chris has actually plotted the route out online.
